About

UCFemTechNet is a distributed UCHRI-supported multi-campus working group bridging STS, film and media studies, critical sci-art, digital humanities, design, and other related approaches. The aim of the network is to spark conversations and collaborations. The first meeting was held October 6, 2012 at UCLA’s Center for the Study of Women. On April 18-20, 2013 UCFemTechNet hosted an assembly at UC San Diego titled “Feminist Infrastructures and Technocultures: Cross-Disciplinary Legacies and Futures.

The UC working group serves as a offshoot of FemTechNet, a network of feminist technology scholars and media practitioners with a global reach. Participants in the University of California group span generations of scholarship, reflecting a commitment to a non-progressivist model of collaborative practice. Accordingly, the network aims to generate an archive of technofeminist cross-disciplinary practice at UC that activates foundational works as catalysts for historically informed innovation in collaborative feminist technology scholarship and practice now.
